Vastu Vidya of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda® Vedic Architecture in harmony with Natural Law details Nature’s own timeless laws of structuring or building which maintain every particle in creation in perfect harmony with everything else. Thus Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is the world’s most ancient and complete system of architecture and planning. It takes into account the influences of sun, moon, stars and planets with reference to north and south poles and the equator. Homes, offices and communities designed and built according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda therefore connect individual life with Cosmic Life, individual intelligence with Cosmic Intelligence, optimizing both the close and distant positive environmental influences on the individual.
This knowledge of construction according to Natural
Law has been recently brought to light from the Vedic Tradition – the
eternal tradition of Natural Law – by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh
Yogi. Maharishi is the world’s foremost scientist of consciousness.
He is honored throughout the world for reformulating the ancient Vedic
wisdom – including Maharishi Sthapatya Veda – in a systematic,
scientific framework, which has brought the benefits of the Vedic knowledge
and Vedic technologies of consciousness to millions of people throughout
the world.
Maharishi says: “Because the individual is cosmic, everything about
individual life should be in full harmony with Cosmic Life. Maharishi Sthapatya
Veda gives dimensions, formulas, and orientations to the buildings that will
provide Cosmic Harmony and Support to the individual for his peace, prosperity,
and good health – daily life in accord with Natural Law, daily life
in the evolutionary direction.”
Effect of Orientation on Brain Fuctioning
Recent research in modern science has now confirmed that our brain is highly
sensitive to orientation, position, and direction in space.
The obvious conclusion is that one’s inherent sense of direction (orientation)
and order gets confused in daily life when one lives in a building with wrong
orientation, not build according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda – Vedic
Architecture, resulting in physiological, psychological, and behavioral imbalances
of all kinds.
Effect of Orientation on Health
Patients living in homes with south entrances had significantly poorer health
and more financial problems than patients with north or east entrances.
This confirms the ancient principle of Vedic Architecture that only east
and north entrances are beneficial for good health and prosperity. Also,
those who slept in north-facing beds suffered from significantly more depression
and anxiety than those who slept in beds without this orientation. This confirms
the ancient principle of Vedic Architecture of orienting beds (head end of
bed) toward east or south and never towards north.
Effect of Orientation on Security
75% more burglaries in south-facing houses than in houses facing east, west
or north.
This confirms the recommendation of Vedic Architecture to close and avoid
all southern entrances and orient buildings facing east or north. Beneficial
Influence of East Light
Hospitalized patients in rooms with eastern sunlight could be released on
average four days earlier than patients in rooms with only western sunlight.
This confirms the ancient principle of Vedic Architecture of designing all
buildings east-facing and with maximum east light for every inhabitant.

Maharishi Sthapatya Veda considers the following values
in the planning and design of ideal communities -- beautiful Garden Cities,
in order to uphold healthy, happy life through the full support of Natural
Law:
Auspicious site considering environmental parameters (slope of the land,
bodies of water, unobstructed sunrise, etc.) that maintain life in accord
with Natural Law
Layout of entrance with direct orientation to the east
All roads aligned north/south, east/west
Open central square with gardens
Proper location and proportions of all buildings and amenities according
to Vastu Vidya
Low-density housing
Natural building materials and energy-efficient construction
Adequate flow of fresh air
Generous green space
Solar, wind and other cost-effective, self-sufficient, non-polluting energies
Sustainable Vedic organic agriculture for self-sufficiency in growing healthy
and wholesome food

education, prevention-oriented health care, and promotion of a problem-fee
society characterized by economic self-sufficiency
The principle of the Meissner Effect from Quantum Physics
verifies that the inner coherence and harmony of a system expels disturbing
influences. This explains how the order, harmony, and good fortune, generated
by an ideal Vastu, disallow the penetration of any harmful, negative influence.ORDINARY
CONDUCTOR
In an ordinary electrical conductor, incoherent, disordered electrons allow
penetration by an external magnetic field. SUPERCONDUCTOR
In a superconductor, coherent collective function of the electrons spontaneously
excludes an external magnetic field, and maintains its impenetrable status.ORDINARY
CITY
In an ordinary city roads are running in all directions resulting in the
improper, or distorted, orientation of buildings, which leads to chaos, problems,
and violation of Natural Law in individual life and in society.IDEAL CITY

The precious knowledge of architecture and planning
in harmony with Natural Law is now available through the International
Institute of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda of Maharishi Vedic University, which
gives advice to house owners, architects, developers, and builders. Site
Selection
The starting point for any Maharishi Sthapatya Veda building or development
is an auspicious site. This service is designed to assist in finding such
an ideal site.
Construction of a New Residential, Institutional or Commercial Building
Applying Maharishi Sthapatya Veda principles to the layout and design, measurements
and proportions, and actual construction of a new building.
Development of Ideal Villages and Communities, City and County Planning
Layout of an ideal master plan and infrastructure. Rectification of Existing
Buildings
Properly oriented buildings with an auspicious site can be rectified to incorporate
some of the Maharishi Sthapatya Veda principles and neutralize existing negative
influences. A rectification of an existing building will, however, never
be ideal and can therefore be considered only a temporary solution, until
a new, perfect Vedic building has been constructed.

Maharishi Sthapatya Veda Exhibition Booklet
The most important principle of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is right direction and orientation. With reference to a building it is the main entrance, that determines the direction in which a building faces, in which direction it is oriented.
Out of eight possible directions, only two – east and north – produce auspicious influences. This means that in an average city with roads in all directions producing all possible orientations of buildings, at least 75% of all buildings have inauspicious orientation, contributing to ill health and other problems in society.
‘People do not generally know that the orientation
of residential and office buildings contributes a great deal to success
and progress in professional life; and health, happiness, and fortune on
the individual level.’
–Maharishi
NOTE: There are many considerations that ultimately determine auspicious and inauspicious influences: the orientation of buildings, placement of rooms, proportions and Vedic measurements, shape and slope of the land, location of any body of water, unobstructed view of the rising sun, influence of the environment, etc.
The strongest influence of Natural Law on earth comes from the sun. Not only is the orientation towards the rising sun, i.e. towards east, the most auspicious, but also, as the sun (seemingly) traverses the sky, from sunrise to sunset, it radiates different qualities of energy. Maharishi Sthapatya Veda considers the energy of the Sun at different times of the day and its influence on different parts (north, south, east, and west) of the building.According to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda there is a suitable place for the entrance, the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, the study, and the bedroom in any home. This is based on Vastu Vidya – knowledge of the correct positioning for storage and generation of different elements used in the building, such a fire (used for cooking), or water (for bathing, etc.).
Healthy living means that one should not always feel sleepy in the dining room, or always feel hungry in the study. Rather, when one enters the study one should feel more fresh and alert; when one enters the dining room, digestion should be stimulated; and the location of the bedroom should be conducive to deep undisturbed rest.
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda considers all these factors to ensure that every aspect of daily activity in the home or office building is in harmony with Natural Law.
Similarly, in town and city planning the same principles of suitability of direction are applied, so that all aspects of living are fully supported by the nourishing power of Natural Law.
Brahmasthan
In addition to all commonly found facilities, there is one very special place
in every Maharishi Sthapatya Veda structure. This is the Brahmasthan, the
open central point – the seat of wholeness. Every home should have
a Brahmasthan, where the totality of Natural Law is established. Then the
home becomes a holistic structure of Natural Law. And every town, city,
and country should have a Brahmasthan, so that every citizen is always
connected with the wholeness of Cosmic Life.
Vedic Measurements and Proportions
In Maharishi Sthapatya Veda the proportions and measurements of the building
and the rooms are designed and calculated in the light of the general proportions
of the human physiology and the symmetry of the Cosmic Physiology, using
the ancient mathematical formulas of Vastu Vidya of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.
This ensures that the proportions are auspicious, that is, in resonance with sun and moon and all the stars and planets. It is this subtle, yet perfect resonance between the individual structure of the building and the Cosmic Structure of the universe that promotes health, wealth, and happiness and ensures an evolutionary development of the life of every individual and the community at large.
Natural, Healthy Building Materials
Another important aspect of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is building with natural,
non-toxic materials suitable to the local climatic conditions. This includes
materials like naturally treated and painted wood, bricks, rammed earth and
adobe, straw bale, etc. as well as natural finishes such as clay stucco,
marble and tiles, natural fibers for carpets, curtains and furniture, and
healthy, natural, non-toxic paints, glues and wallpaper.
Also any harmful electro-magnetic fields, high-tension lines, microwave towers and ovens etc. should be carefully avoided. Ideally all materials and appliances in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda buildings should be pure and healthy.
NOTE: To make sure that a building is planned and constructed really in accord with all the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, it is necessary to consult an expert in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda. The highly trained expert applies the precise, time-tested knowledge of Natural Law from the ancient Vedic tradition, which has been preserved through out time in the texts of Sthapatya Veda and restored to its full significance by Maharishi.
The revival of this timeless knowledge of building in
accord with Natural Law – Vastu Vidya of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda – gives
us the opportunity for the complete reconstruction of the whole world for
everyone to be really healthy and happy on a permanent basis.
This realization has given rise to a global programme to provide auspicious
Vastu buildings for the whole population of the world.
His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has founded the Global Country of World
Peace to reconstruct the whole world – inner and outer – according
to total Natural Law – the Will of God – for permanent peace
on earth.
The Global Country of World Peace will establish Heaven on Earth by raising
the quality of life of every individual to complete fulfillment and affluence
in enlightenment.
